Mount Paran girls top Josey in state title match

MACON — It was a clash of the eagles in Macon March 7 as the Lady Eagles from T.W. Josey battled Kennesaw’s Mount Paran Christian for the state AA title losing 59-52.

Sophomore Kerri Fluellen led Josey with 20 points in the matchup followed by Ke’asia Henderson with 17 points.

Josey held a two-point lead after the first quarter but went into the half with the score tied at 27. Mount Paran stretched its lead by five in the third quarter, but Josey narrowed the gap in the final seconds with Fluellen and Shaniya Sanders both sinking three-pointers.

Mount Paran led by two going into the fourth 48-46.

Mount Paran commanded the final eight minutes, scoring six points in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter. Josey put its first points on the scoreboard in the fourth at the 4:49 mark with Ke’asia Henderson making a layup. She’d follow that up with a three-pointer about 20 seconds later.

But the Augusta team couldn’t muster enough offense in the closing minutes as Mount Paran stretched its lead, outscoring Josey 16-11 in the final quarter.
