Middle Georgia defeats Augusta University Jan. 3

COCHRAN, Ga. – Augusta built a 13-point halftime lead, but Middle Georgia put together a strong second half to pull away for a 76–68 win Saturday afternoon Jan. 3 at Morris Gym.

The Jaguars came out aggressive and controlled the opening half, shooting 50% from the floor while holding Middle Georgia to 43.5%. Tobias Prall knocked down a pair of early threes, Charlie McBeath scored consistently inside, and Evan Joyner provided a spark off the bench as Augusta pushed the lead to as many as 19. The Jaguars carried a 43–30 advantage into the locker room.

Middle Georgia responded after the break, shooting 13-for-17 in the second half and using an extended run to erase the deficit. Augusta briefly regained the lead midway through the half following back-to-back threes from Prall, but Middle Georgia answered with timely baskets and free throws down the stretch to regain control.

Prall finished with 16 points on four made threes, while Joyner led Augusta with 18 points off the bench, playing his first minutes of the season. McBeath added 13 points and seven rebounds, and Luis Nonfon pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.

Augusta returns home on Wednesday, Jan. 7, hosting Clayton State in a Peach Belt Conference matchup at Christenberry Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
