Local Fisher Houses receive $54,000 donation

The Greater Augusta-Fort Eisenhower chapter of the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) donated $54,000 to two local Fisher House Foundation sites Nov. 22

“Community support is fundamental to the work we do in caring for Veteran’s families,” said
Courtney Deese, Fisher House Manager at Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in a news release. “The local AUSA chapter’s generosity will go a long way in ensuring we deliver the high-quality,
compassionate care that families have come to expect from the VA Augusta Fisher House.”

The Great Augusta-Fort Eisenhower chapter of the AUSA was forced to cancel its Military
Appreciate banquet benefiting the local Fisher Houses this past September due to the damage
the event location sustained from Hurricane Helene, the release said.

Even though the event was canceled, most sponsors made their donation.

Retired Col. Thom Tuckey is a member of the Greater Augusta-Fort Eisenhower chapter of the
AUSA and banquet co-chair.

“We are very thankful for the continued support of our sponsors despite not having the Military
Appreciation Banquet,” said Tuckey. “While we would have loved to celebrate all our local
military, we are most proud of completing what we set out to do – support the local Fisher
Houses. A heavy burden is lifted by this organization’s mission to take care of military family
members while their service member receives care.”

The Fisher House Foundation builds comfort homes where military and veteran families can
stay free of charge while a loved one is in the hospital. The Augusta area has two locations with
one on Fort Eisenhower and a second at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center.
