An original production heads to the stage March 7-9.
Laura Gilliand wrote and is directing “Murderous Melodies: A Karaoke Kill” for Uplift Performing Arts in Martinez.
“In this show, there are five karaoke contestants who are vying to be Karaoke King or Queen. During the contest, a murder happens, and everyone is a suspect,” Gilliand wrote in an email.

Uplift Performing Arts is a new theater company located at 3814 Commercial Ct., in the space formerly used by Enopion Theatre Co.
Gilliand said owner Christi Wildes founded the company “to be a place where adults and youth are able to build skills and confidence in the theatrical arts through classes and productions. Playwriting has been something she has encouraged.”
Gilliand has worked with other theater groups in town and is excited about the production which features “a talented ensemble of ten fabulous actors, is a unique blend of mystery, humor and music.”
Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. March 7-8 and 3 p.m. March 9 at the theater.
