Jags and Pacers split a softball doubleheader April 12

AIKEN — The University of South Carolina Aiken softball team split a doubleheader with Augusta University on Senior Day April 12 at J.H. Satcher Field.

The Jaguars took Game One 2-1 before falling 6-5 in Game Two.

In the second inning of Game One, Aiken’s Tara McGee made it to first on a fielder’s choice with Anna Turner’s double pushing her to third. McGee came across the plate to score the first run on a groundout by Lydia Johnson.

The Jaguars tied the game in the third on Bailee Roberts’ RBI single.

In the seventh, Augusta’s Ryan Hanson doubled. Kaylynn Scaffe’s bunt moved Hanson to third, and Sam Tener drove in the winning run on a fielder’s choice.

In the second game, the Jaguars scored two runs in the first on RBI hits from Cadance Winder and Grace Bailey.

The Jaguars scored their third run in the top of the fourth with Ayellad Howard adding an RBI triple.

The Pacers took the lead in the bottom half of the fourth.

Turner doubled, sending in two runners, making it 3-2.  Peri Rouillard also doubled, and Turner crossed the plate to make it 3-3. Howard added an RBI triple and later scored to give the Pacers a 4-3 lead.

Kate Newberry’s solo homer in the fifth and Mallory Shaver’s RBI single put the Pacers up 6-3. 

Augusta scored two more runs in the sixth after singles from Scaffe and Chesney Miles, an RBI single by Howard, and a groundout RBI by Roberts.

Augusta moves to 23-23 overall and 5-13 in conference play. The Pacers are now 22-23 on the season and 10-11 in PBC play.
