Out-of-state and local crews continue their efforts to restore power and traffic signals around the Augusta area Thursday.

Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson said during an afternoon press conference that about 69% of Augusta households had power

In a statement released around noon Thursday, North Augusta Mayor Briton Williams said “We have 6,689 houses still without power which is down from the 14,000 a week ago – that in itself is very positive. Dominion has restored power to 15 of the 20 substations breakers which is among the first steps in recovery. Dominion still must restore 13 Gang Switch level breakers – think of these as the backbone of the system to be fully operational. Once these are up and running then they can address tap level outages which is the point where the power goes into neighborhoods.”

God bless all these men working tirelessly to restore power to Augusta! The devastation especially on the hill above the city (Highland Ave. & Walton Way area) which probably had the highest winds is unbelievable! Two hundred year old pine trees up to 3 ft in diameter blown down as if they were match sticks.
