NORTH AUGUSTA – North Augusta capped its regular season with a 20-17 victory over Gray Collegiate Academy Friday.
The game could’ve been a decisive region match with both teams putting up great records on the season; however, the South Carolina High School League executive committee disqualified Gray from the 2024 playoffs and forfeited all of their games because the school used an ineligible student athlete during the season, according to an article at SI.com
Head coach D’Angelo Bryant, who previously coached at Silver Bluff and is in his first year with the War Eagles, was suspended for the rest of the season for violating the SCHSL’s rules on recruiting, the article continued.
Gray is appealing the decision according to a Nov. 7 news release at the West Columbia charter school’s Facebook page.
Friday’s game was a hard fought one with Gray taking an early lead after an interception. Gray led 17-10 at the half but wouldn’t score any points in the second half.
North Augusta finishes the season at 9-1 overall and 7-0 in Region 4-AAAA, taking the region title. The SCHSL state playoffs begin on Nov. 15.
