It was a nailbiter Friday at Greenbrier High School as the Harlem Bulldogs edged past the Wolfpack 38-37 in OT.

The pack drew first blood in the season opener with a field goal followed by a 37-yard touchdown run by Brennen Bjorkman.

The Bulldogs put a touchdown on the board with Jordan Lott’s one-yard run.

The Wolfpack would put another touchdown up to lead at the half 17-6.

The teams ramped up the excitement in the second half with Harlem taking the lead 21-17 for the first time in the game with about four minutes left in the third quarter. They scored a few minutes later on a safety.

The fourth quarter brought a flurry of scoring plays. Harlem drove the ball deep into Wolfpack territory and threatened to stretch the lead by attempting a field goal, which Greenbrier blocked. The Wolfpack took possession of the ball on their own 20-yard line and made their way down the field, where Cole Trupp scored from the two-yard line. The Wolfpack nudged past the Bulldogs 24-23 with three minutes left.

The Bulldogs then pushed into the endzone only a few minutes later and with the two-point conversion moved ahead of the ‘Pack 31-24.

With two minutes left in regulation, Greenbrier took possession of the ball on its 20, and with less than a minute left, the team tied the game, forcing it into overtime.

Both Harlem and Greenbrier would score in the extra period, but a missed two-point conversion gave Harlem the win.

Harlem will host Washington-Wilkes on Aug. 23 while Greenbrier will host Grovetown.
