It’s an 0-4 start for the first time in Dip Metress’s 20 years as Augusta University’s head basketball coach as the Jags fells to the Fayetteville State Broncos at Christenberry Fieldhouse 79-62 Nov. 20.

Augusta trailed by seven points at halftime, but a strong start to the second half by Fayetteville State extended the lead, according to augustajags.com. The Jaguars showed flashes of strong play, particularly in the paint where they scored 46 points, but turnovers and cold shooting from beyond the arc hampered their efforts.

Demitri Gardner once again led the Jaguars with 21 points, 3 rebounds, and a steal while shooting 7-13 from the field and 3-6 from three-point range. TJ Baker contributed 9 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists, providing key baskets in the first half. Luis Nonfon added 7 points and 4 rebounds, including solid defensive efforts in the paint. John St. Germain III chipped in with 9 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals off the bench, while Oliver Lucas added 6 points on efficient shooting and showed strong finishing ability late in the game, according to augustajags.com.

Augusta will travel to Columbia to face Benedict College at 7 p.m. Nov. 26. The Jags next home game is Dec. 5 when they will host Paine College in the Richmond County Education Day Game.
