Despite a train delay, the Augusta Half Marathon/10K/5K went on as scheduled with runners taking to the streets.
Some runners were in it to achieve their personal bests. Cedar Ridge Elementary School third grader Maela Groshong wanted to top her personal best in the 5K, and she blew threw her previous PR of 49 minutes, recording a time of 43:51, according to her dad and running partner Gabe Groshong.
It was Maela’s fourth 5K. Read more about her story here.
Sponsored by the Augusta Sports Council, the event is a fundraiser for its G.A.M.E.S. Scholarship which benefits area student-athletes, but some runners use the event to help other causes such as members of the 65ROSES team who help families of children with Cystic Fibrosis. Read their story here.
