Taking a cue from a popular movie, an Aug. 8 fundraiser will give people a unique glimpse into the Augusta Museum of History.
Using the backdrop of museum exhibits, historical figures will come to life after dark to tell stories from Augusta’s past.
“This is a really fun event,” said Nancy Glaser, museum executive director of the “Night at the Museum” fundraiser.
Guided by a security guard, guests will meet ten historic figures with Augusta ties including George Walton, one of Georgia’s three signers of the Declaration of Independence; Evelyn McDaniel who christened the USS Augusta, singer Brenda Lee; educator, Lucy Craft Laney and Prosper Berckmans who established Fruitlands Nurseries.
They’ll also learn about James Brown’s firsts from his daughter, Deanna Brown Thomas.
While the fundraiser has been held for several years, the program is changed each year with different actors as well as different historical figures highlighted, Glaser said.
Performances begin at 6 and 7:30 p.m. Admission is limited, said Glaser. There will be four groups of up to 20 guests per group.
Tickets are $100 each or $50 for veterans.
“It all goes into programs, preservation efforts and exhibits,” said Glaser of the proceeds.
