Helms College summer graduation planned for Aug. 9

Helm College graduation will be at 11 a.m. Aug. 9 at Warren Baptist Church.

The summer graduating class includes 43 students earning credentials in Culinary Arts, Health Services, and related fields. Among them are 10 Associate of Applied Science degree recipients, two distinguished honor graduates with a perfect 4.0 GPA, and 18 honor graduates with GPAs between 3.5 and 3.99. The class also includes two veterans, reflecting the diverse paths and dedication of Helms students, according to a news release.

Katrina Hutchins will be the commencement speaker.

Affectionately known as “Dr. Katrina,” she is the Founder and President of Re-Source Solutions, a leadership development firm dedicated to organizational excellence and personal transformation. An acclaimed speaker, executive coach, author, and philanthropist, Hutchins brings decades of experience across corporate, government, nonprofit, faith-based and higher education sectors, according to a news release.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Katrina for this special occasion,” said Kristine Furtaw, Senior Vice President of Education at Helms College. “Her dedication to uplifting others through education and leadership aligns perfectly with our mission.”

Founded by Goodwill of Middle Georgia and the CSRA, Helms College offers a unique career education experience that blends classroom instruction, hands-on lab training, and real-world practice through social enterprises, such as Edgar’s Hospitality Group. This “classroom to lab to enterprise” model not only reinforces skill mastery but also builds confidence and professional readiness to enter the local workforce, the release said.
