Grovetown donates patrol cars to town devastated by Helene

Two former Grovetown Police Department patrol cars have a new home in Marshall, North Carolina.

Grovetown Police Department officials took the vehicles with their new signage to Marshall on Monday, Dec. 9, according to a post on the Grovetown Police Department Facebook page.

“The Marshall Police Department was completely decimated during the flooding caused by Hurricane Helene and have been operating with minimal equipment since the storm hit.

Last month, the City Council voted unanimously to donate these surplus vehicles after a presentation from Chief (Jamey) Kitchens explaining the devastation the town has suffered and their need for assistance,” the post read.

Located in Madison County about 20 miles north of Asheville, the town of Marshall is about 3.8 square miles and had a population of about 872 in the 2010 census.

The Marshall Police Department lost a patrol vehicle during the flooding after Helene and didn’t have a timeline of when it would be replaced, the post continued.

“Chief (Kenny) Brown was extremely grateful to receive the cars this morning,” it said.
