GreenJackets open 2024 season at home April 5

Golf isn’t the only game in town this weekend as the Augusta GreenJackets open their season at home Friday, April 5, against the Columbia Fireflies at SRP Park.

While women are hitting the links as part of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, the GreenJackets will come to the plate for a weekend series full of promotions.

“This will be the first time since SRP Park opened that the GreenJackets start at home, and it should be an action-packed weekend,” said GreenJackets’ General Manager, Brandon Greene, in a recent news release.

It’s also the first time in more than six years that the GreenJackets have started their season before The Masters.

The Atlanta Braves minor league affiliate finished 63-68 last season and has a new manager for 2024.

In January, Wynston Sawyer was named the GreenJackets’ manager. In his fourth season with the Braves Minor League Coaching staff, he spent 2023 with the rookie-level Florida Complex League Braves as a coach. The team finished with a 30-24 record, clinched the Wild Card spot and ended up winning the FCL Championship. Originally from San Diego, Calif., Sawyer played 10 seasons in the minors.

The first pitch of the season will be at 7:05 p.m. The first 2,000 fans on opening night will receive a towel from SRP Federal Credit Union.

Saturday’s game will start at 6:05 p.m., and the night will end with the first fireworks show of the season.

On Sunday, the final game of the series will begin at 6:05 p.m. The GreenJackets will trade their home white jerseys for their Braves-themed red uniforms for the BUZZFest Block Party.

During the night, one fan will be randomly selected to master a one-shot chipping contest for the possibility of winning $20,000.
