THOMSON — Goodwill of Middle Georgia & the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) will open its newest donation center at 674 Washington Road, near Walmart and Tractor Supply Co. in Thomson in anticipation of opening a new retail training store and career center in early 2025.
Beginning Oct. 23, people can drop off gently-used clothing, furniture, and household items Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This location offers a convenient donation truck stationed across from Walmart and adjacent to Tractor Supply, according to a news release from Goodwill.
Goodwill plans to expand the site’s operations with a retail training store and career center, which is expected to open early next year. These upcoming additions are part of Goodwill’s broader mission to support local workforce development and job training opportunities, providing a pathway to employment for individuals facing barriers in the workforce, the news release said.
“We are excited to bring more services and resources to the Thomson community,” said DeWaye Cuffie, Goodwill’s Senior Vice President of Operations, adding that the new donation center is a critical step toward delivering job training and career support programs for the region. “When you donate to Goodwill, you’re not only decluttering your home but also directly funding programs that help people build new skills and find meaningful employment.”
Goodwill’s presence in Thomson aims to foster economic empowerment through its commitment to the community. All donations collected at the center help fund Goodwill’s mission-focused programs, including employment readiness training, skills development workshops, and job placement services. The donations collected at the new Thomson location will help support these initiatives, making it easier for those in the community to give back in a meaningful way, the news release added.
“At Goodwill, the funds raised through store sales go directly to support our career services and education training programs offered through Goodwill Career Education and Helms College. Our mission is to remove barriers for individuals who face challenges in securing employment, whether due to a lack of experience, education, or transitioning back into the workforce,” Cuffie said. “Thanks to the incredible generosity of our donors, we can transform gently used goods into powerful, life-changing opportunities, giving people the skills and support they need to succeed and contribute meaningfully to their communities.”
