Gonzalez-McCarthy wins 50th annual Lady Paladin Invitational

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Augusta University sophomore Keira Gonzalez-McCarthy led wire-to-wire to win the the 50th annual Lady Paladin Invitational at Furman Golf Course Sept. 22.

Gonzalez-McCarthy, from Spain, birdied the final hole and fired a 70 to win by a shot over Averi Cline and Catie Craig, both of Western Kentucky. Gonzalez-McCarthy was -8 for the tournament after rounds of 68-70-70 to claim her first collegiate victory, according to a news release.

She finished sixth two weeks ago at the Badger Invitational and then backed that up with this week’s performance in Greenville. Gonzalez-McCarthy had four birdies and two bogeys on the day, but none bigger than draining the winning put on her final hole of the tournament.

As a team, Augusta University finished seventh at +19 for the tournament. Xavier won the team title at -1 followed by Western Kentucky (+5) and Furman (+7).

Marie Legentil shot a 75 today and finished in 26th with Sara Adams having a 74 to finish in 35th place. Zoe Pinillos was 41st and Gwendolyn Yarnell finishing 71 in 71st place.
