Golden Harvest Food Bank issues urgent call for volunteers

As demand for food continues to rise across the region, Golden Harvest Food Bank is turning to the strength of its community.

Volunteers are urgently needed to support ongoing hunger relief efforts at the Augusta campus, where daily morning and afternoon shifts are in full swing, according to a news release.

With each shift, roughly 30 volunteers are needed to help sort donated goods, pack family food boxes, and prepare fresh produce and proteins for neighbors facing hunger. These hands-on efforts directly support families across 24 counties in Georgia and South Carolina.

To meet the growing need, the food bank has added new volunteer shifts, including Friday afternoons and a special weekend opportunity on Saturday, May 10. These are in addition to the regular weekday morning and afternoon shifts.

“Every shift filled, every box packed, and every meal distributed begins with someone choosing to show up,” said Amy Breitmann, President and CEO, Golden Harvest Food Bank. “That kind of service, rooted in compassion and community, is what keeps our mission moving forward.”

With summer just around the corner, the need is especially urgent, the release continued. Many children rely on school meals for daily nutrition, and when school is out, families often struggle to make ends meet. Volunteers play a vital role in bridging that gap, making sure children and families have access to needed food.

Golden Harvest Food Bank welcomes individuals, church groups, civic clubs and local businesses to join the effort.
