Georgia Military College continues to recover from July lightning strike

Georgia Military College’s Augusta campus is still recovering from a July lighting strike.

Due to ongoing storm-related repairs, all classes will begin remotely for Week 1 (Aug. 11–15). The college plan to resume in-seat instruction starting Week 2, on Monday, Aug. 18.

“We are encouraging all students to please check their emails and Canvas regularly and communicate with their instructors,” according to a news release.

The bookstore has temporary power and is open for students who need to pick up physical textbooks. Students will need to bring their class schedule with them.

Georgia Military College’s Augusta campus went to remote learning the week of July 14–18, following a lightning strike that caused significant damage to the facility, an earlier news release said.

“We are incredibly grateful that no one was injured during the incident and appreciate the swift response from emergency services. However, the building sustained electrical, water and fire damage and will remain closed while restoration efforts are underway,” the release said.
