Fort Gordon Christmas House helped 426 families including 763 children have a better holiday season.
The Golden Harvest Food Bank has partnered with Fort Gordon Christmas House to provide food boxes for active-duty service members ranked E6 and below for five years. Preregistered military families were able to shop for gifts for their children and pets while also receiving boxes of shelf-stable food, according to a news release from the Golden Harvest Food Bank.
Inside the Christmas House, families moved through a space arranged in a retail-style layout with shopping carts and shelves stocked with toys and books. More than 100 organizations and individuals across the CSRA donated toys and monetary support to make the event possible.

After completing their shopping experience, Golden Harvest Food Bank staff and provided boxes of shelf-stable food along with chicken and turkeys to support meals throughout the holiday season.
“As a ‘senior’ military spouse, knowing that our families on Fort Gordon are being offered support by our local food bank, Golden Harvest, means everything to me,” said Nomi Stanton, Fort Eisenhower Christmas House advisor. “I’m grateful, beyond words, for the kindness, compassion and discretion. The last thing anyone serving our country should ever have to struggle with is food insecurity. Bless Amy Breitmann and her entire team.”
Founded more than 60 years ago by a group of nurses who worked on base, Fort Gordon Christmas House began as a mission to bring toys to children of deployed service members. Over time, the effort expanded to serve all qualifying military families with toys, bicycles, and food boxes, the news release continued.

“We’re grateful to partner with Fort Gordon Christmas House to help ensure military families have the food they need during the holidays,” said Amy Breitmann, President and CEO, Golden Harvest Food Bank. “Through this collaboration, we’re able to support families in a meaningful way at a time when it matters most.”
According to Feeding America projections, as many as 160,000 active-duty enlisted service members are facing food insecurity nationwide. A recent survey of Feeding America–affiliated food banks found that nearly half are serving active-duty military members and their families.

My husband served 20 years as an Army Officer and retired. He’s now a Contractor for the Military. If I had known about the Christmas House, I would have been happy to help. Please include my name for next year so I can be a part of it.
I’m sure you made a lot of children and families so happy. Thank you for doing this.
