Cross Creek girls basketball team made up of TRUE Razorbacks

After a perfect region record and an appearance in the Sweet Sixteen last season, Cross Creek High School’s Lady Razorbacks are gearing up for another winning year and becoming a team of TRUE Razorbacks.

That’s the motto of the season with TRUE standing for having toughness and resilience, being unselfish and achieving excellence, according to Cross Creek Coach Tracey Flowers, at a basketball media event Nov. 2 at Westside High School.

“So, we strive for that every single day. We talk about it,” she said.

Cross Creek opens the season Nov. 13 at Grovetown.

Flowers anticipates her team doing well this season because they’ve been working hard off-season.

“The thing that excites me the most is the growth that we have with the young ladies. I think they’ve been putting in a lot of work in the offseason and preparing for the season,” she said.

Flowers has a focus on basic basketball, and she plans to take the season “game by game, possession by possession.”

Providing a foundation is key to the team’s success.

Flowers said she’s seen the growth in her returning players, many of whom spent the off-season, honing their skills while playing in summer leagues. Also, there are new players coming in this year whose play excited her.

“We have some young players who are going to make an impact immediately,” she said.

The new players come in on the foundation that has already been set in place.

Cross Creek’s players are in step with Flowers’ vision. As they look toward the new season, they have their eyes fixed on improving their fundamentals.

Sophomore Ki’yana Rouse plans to do her part while accomplishing her season goals to  “better my defense, shooting, dribbling and ball handling,” this season.

Her teammate, Madison Robertson, senior, said that her personal focus is to become stronger this year and “run the floor better.”

As they focus on improving their personal skills, they believe they can catapult the team to a championship run.
