Columbia County to name Teacher of Year on Oct. 3

Five Columbia County teachers have been named as finalists for 2024-2025 Teacher of the Year.

The finalists are Kynisha Okonkwo, Harlem Middle School; Tawana Odom, Harlem High School; Tabitha Purvis, Euchee Creek Elementary School; Debra Hunter-Green, Martinez Elementary School; and
Rebecca Blumenthal, South Columbia Elementary School.

The Columbia County School District will hold its annual Teacher of the Year Celebration beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at Savannah Rapids Pavilion, 3300 Evans to Locks Rd.

Each school’s Teacher of the Year, including the top five finalists, will be recognized and awarded a variety of gifts, according to a news release from the school district. The winning Teacher of the Year will go on to represent the Columbia County School District at the state level.

The presentation of awards and announcement of the winner will be livestreamed beginning at
6:30 p.m., at http://bit.ly/ccsdlive.
