Columbia County fine arts students receive diploma seals and scholarships

The Columbia County School District, in partnership with the Columbia County School District Foundation, recognized graduating seniors for outstanding achievement in the arts during the annual Arts at the Plaza on April 25.

The foundation awarded two $1,000 Fine Arts scholarships this year, according to a news release from the Columbia County School District.

Aiden Rolle, from Columbia Virtual Academy, plans to attend the University of Georgia in the
fall, with a declared major in theater. Sutton McAlister Van Lenten, from Greenbrier High School, plans to attend Coastal Carolina University where she plans to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theater.

Eleven students submitted applications for the scholarships. Graduating seniors were eligible to apply if they plan to declare a fine arts-focused major in Fall 2026. Applicants were evaluated on academic performance, leadership and involvement, recommendations and a personal fine arts reflection.

Seniors received a Fine Arts Diploma Seal, which signals to colleges and employers that students are prepared for creative industries through completed coursework, community service, and a capstone project, the release said.

Introduced to CCSD graduates last year, the program has seen rapid growth, with more than 75 students earning the distinction districtwide this year—nearly doubling participation. The CCSD Arts at the Plaza Fine Arts Showcase supports the Foundation’s mission to provide classroom innovation grants, scholarships, and special programs beyond public funding.
