City of Augusta to honor Tom Wiedmeier at building naming ceremony on Nov. 20

The Augusta Utilities, Augusta Engineering and NRCS Administration Building will be named in honor of former Utilities Director Tom Wiedmeier at a Nov. 20 ceremony.

Wiedmeyer’s “leadership and dedication to Augusta, Georgia left an indelible mark on the community’s water services,” according to the city’s website.

Wiedmeier served as the Director of Augusta Utilities from November 2009 until his death in August 2020. During his leadership at Augusta Utilities, he spearheaded initiatives that improved the delivery of services and quality of water for residents and businesses alike, the website continued.

“Tom Wiedmeier’s legacy is one of dedication, innovation, and a profound commitment to serving all residents of Augusta – Richmond County. It is only fitting that this building, which continues to be at the heart of our water operations, bears his name,” said Wes Byne, Director of Utilities.

The naming ceremony will be at 10 a.m. at the offices at 452 Walker St. The ceremony will include remarks from community leaders, colleagues and family members, as well as a commemorative unveiling of the building’s new signage.

Members of the public are invited to attend and celebrate the life and contributions of Tom Wiedmeier, whose vision helped shape the foundation of Augusta’s water.
