Donations are currently being accepted for the annual Book Bash.
The United Way of the CSRA, The Hub for Community Innovation, RISE Augusta and the Dr. Paulette P. Harris Literacy Center have joined for a community-wide initiative dedicated to ensuring local students have consistent access to high-quality reading materials in their homes throughout the summer months, according to a news release.
“Literacy is the foundation of all future success,” said Brittany Burnett, President and CEO of United Way of the CSRA. “By partnering with organizations like RISE Augusta and the Harris Literacy Center, we are able to meet the diverse needs of our students and provide the tools necessary to keep their minds active during the summer break.”
The goal of Book Bash is to distribute 1,500 book bags, with each child receiving five or six books to build their personal home libraries. Recognizing that literacy is a lifelong journey, the event will provide books ranging in level from infants to high school seniors, ensuring that no one in the community is too young or too old to participate.
Donations are being accepted through May 22 and may be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at United Way of the CSRA, 1765 Broad St.
This initiative aligns with United Way of the CSRA’s ongoing commitment to supporting the health, education and well-being of our local residents.
