Augusta’s ‘state of tourism’ focus of Nov. 13 event

To celebrate the positive of tourism, Destination Augusta, the Augusta Sports Council and Film Augusta will present the 2024 Augusta State of Tourism: Connect and Celebrate event at the Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 13.

“It’s a time for us to bring together the many partners in Augusta’s hospitality industry to celebrate our collective successes,” said Bennish Brown, Destination Augusta President/CEO, in a news release from Destination Augusta. “We also invite the community to come out and connect on how we can work together to grow the economic impact of visitors to Augusta.”

Talk show host Ana Christina will serve as emcee for the celebration, and local band Phaze360 will provide musical entertainment. Attendees will hear from Brown and Augusta Sports Council CEO Michelle Pippin as they recount notable 2024 highlights from each organization, including the impact of Hurricane Helene, and take a look forward at what’s coming in 2025, the news release continued.

During the Augusta State of Tourism event, as well as on www.VisitAugusta.com, Destination Augusta will acknowledge hospitality partners who went above and beyond to support our community in the wake of Hurricane Helene, celebrating the people who make #AugustaStrong.

The event also includes the Augusta Tourism Awards ceremony to honor individuals and organizations who have gone above and beyond to strengthen Augusta’s tourism and hospitality industry. This year’s honorees include:

Phil Wahl of Security Federal Bank will receive the President’s Award, which goes to the “one who has gone above and beyond to promote and strengthen Augusta;” City Administrator Tameka Allen, receives the Community Spirit Award, which “showcases the best of community tourism service providers who are passionate and committed to making a difference;” Mark Meyers of Augusta University receives the Partnership Award, which is “presented to an outstanding individual, business or organization that has demonstrated exemplary collaborative endeavors with Destination Augusta;” and Amy Rhinehart Bailey, receive the Film Augusta Partner of the Year, for the “partner who has worked extensively with Film Augusta to bring film productions to the city which create local jobs, generate economic impact and who has made a personal impact in transforming Augusta into a growing hub for the film industry,” the release said. Bailey has produced several films shot in the Augusta area including “The Observance” which was filmed in May.
