Augusta University extends win streak to nine

MORROW, Ga. – The Augusta men’s basketball team kept its momentum rolling with a 72-62 victory over Clayton State on Jan. 8 at The Loch.

The Jaguars controlled the game from the start, building a 39-35 halftime lead behind a strong offensive showing. Augusta dominated the paint, scoring 48 points inside and shooting over 56% from the field for the game. In the second half, the Jaguars held the Lakers to just 27 points, maintaining a consistent lead to secure the victory.

Demitri Gardner led all scorers with 22 points, going 8-14 from the field and a perfect 3-3 from the free-throw line. Gardner also added one rebound and two steals in his 37 minutes of play. Max Amadasun added 18 points on 9-15 shooting and pulled down 11 rebounds. John St. Germain III contributed 12 points, four rebounds, and one assist, providing steady leadership in the backcourt.

Key contributions also came from Evan Joyner, who recorded six points and six rebounds off the bench, and Elias Palsson, who chipped in with three points, three rebounds and one block. .

Augusta’s defense proved pivotal, holding Clayton State to just 40.3% shooting from the field and 21.7% from beyond the arc. The Jaguars also dominated the boards, out-rebounding the Lakers 39-28, with eight offensive rebounds that led to 12 second-chance points.

With the win, the Jaguars improve to 9-4 overall and 3-0 in Peach Belt Conference play, while Clayton State falls to 6-7 and 0-3 in the conference. The win marks Augusta’s ninth consecutive victory as the Jaguars continue to surge in league play.

The Jaguars will travel to Aiken Saturday, Jan. 11, to face USC Aiken in a Peach Belt Conference matchup. Tip-off will be at 3:30 p.m. at the USC Aiken Convocation Center.
