The Augusta-Richmond County Fire Department will receive a $243,873.63 federal grant.
The funds, through the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program, can be used for professional training, wellness and fitness programs, equipment, personal protective equipment (PPE) and modifications to facilities, according to a July 17 news release from the office of U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff, D-Ga.
“Firefighters across Georgia put their lives on the line to keep families safe,” Ossoff said in the release. “Senator (Raphael) Warnock and I will never stop championing Georgia’s heroic fire departments, and these resources will help them respond to emergencies that threaten lives and property.”
In June, Ossoff led a bipartisan effort to pass the Fire Grants and Safety Act, which will re-authorize key grant programs — like the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) Program — that provide Federal funding to Georgia’s fire departments.
Twin City, Ga. also received a grant for $289.279.05, the release said. Other Georgia cities have benefitted from grants over the past few years.
