CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Augusta GreenJackets (Atlanta Braves) notched their second ninth-inning comeback of the season against the Charleston RiverDogs (Tampa Bay Rays), rallying from a one-run deficit to pick up a 4-3 win June 1 at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park.

Augusta (26-22) won their fourth straight game, matching the longest winning streak of the season, as the RiverDogs (18-30) dropped their eighth game in their last nine.

The GreenJackets hit a home run in the top of the first inning for the second straight night, with Bryson Worrell smashing his second of the season off of the scoreboard in right field. However, two walks and two hits for the RiverDogs combined with a trio of balks by GreenJackets starter Jhancarlos Lara scored three for the hosts, as Charleston exited the frame with a 3-1 lead. Lara was replaced in the fifth, as Tyree Thompson pitched a scoreless frame, extending a shutout streak that dates back to the last week of April.

The score would remain at 3-1 until the top of the sixth inning, when Ethan Workinger hit his second homer in as many days to make it 3-2. RiverDogs starter Marcus Johnson recorded the longest start against Augusta of any pitcher this season, making it through seven innings while allowing just two runs. Nolan Martinez entered in the bottom of the sixth for Augusta, and the Californian struck out six batters in his three innings of work while not allowing a run.

Down a run entering the final frame, Justin Janas worked a walk against Charleston’s closer, Junior William. Bryson Worrell then notched a triple to the deepest part of the field to tie the game at three apiece, before William balked, driving him home to make it 4-3. Elison Joseph (S, 6) entered and worked a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his sixth save on the year, remaining perfect in save situations as the GreenJackets won their fourth straight game to match their longest winning streak of 2023.

The GreenJackets are in Charleston to take on the RiverDogs (Tampa Bay Rays) for three more games, before returning home for a 12-game homestand where they will take on Myrtle Beach (Chicago Cubs) and Carolina (Milwaukee Brewers), featuring a Vaughn Grissom bobblehead giveaway and a meet and greet with former UGA quarterback David Greene.
