As AI creeps into everything, generative AI doesn’t have a place at Augusta Good Newss.
Here’s our policy concerning Artificial Intelligence.
Augusta Good News will not use generative AI to create or write stories or to create or edits photographs. Reporters will interviews real people to create stories, and people will take pictures and not alter them in AI.
AI has a couple of practical, time-saving uses in what we do; however, those must be overseen by a human being.
When reporters record interviews, AI can transcribe these into a written form; however, they must be double checked before they are automatically used in a story. I recently had a recording where the speaker said, “the servants” however, AI transcribed it to read “the serpents”. When I read the transcription, I immediately knew that was incorrect so I relistened to the recording.
AI is not infallible and can only be used to support.
AI has spell and grammar check, but it’s not always right.. I’ve seen many suggestions from the computer telling me to change grammar or spelling, and it’s not right. I double check..
That said. AI might have limited usefulness, but it will always be overseen by a human who can overrule it.
