AU men and women win; Gardner, Phillips honored for 1,000th career points on Jan. 29

Jaguar fans had lots of reasons to celebrate Wednesday at Christenberry Fieldhouse.

Both the men’s and women’s teams chalked up victories, and Demetri Gardner scored his 1,000 career point all while raising cancer awareness since the Jan. 29 game was the Cancer Awareness – HERE TO WIN event in conjunction with the Georgia Cancer Center.

In the women’s game, the Jaguars cruised to a 30-point win over Georgia College 63-33. The Jags improve to 5-3 in Peach Belt Conference play and 13-5 overall while the Bobcats are now 4-7 in conference play and 11-9 overall.

Autumn Phillips reached her 1,000 career point on Jan. 25 against North Georgia and was recognized during halftm.

In the men’s game, the Jags topped the Bobcats 88-76.

The Jaguars took a 42-29 lead into halftime and maintained control throughout the second half, holding off Georgia College’s efforts while shooting 60.7% from the field after the break, according to a news release from Augusta University.

Gardner and Max Amadasun each scored 23 points, with Gardner shooting 10-of-19 from the field, including two three-pointers. Amadasun had 16 rebounds.

The Jaguars return to the road on Saturday for a Peach Belt Conference matchup against Columbus State.
