What’s happening in the area’s art scene over the next few weeks? I’m glad you asked because there’s a bunch of events taking place this week from Westobou’s season wrap to a new exhibit at the Aiken Center for the Arts to 4P Studios’s downtown pop-up. And I’m adding one to put on your calendar for next week at a gallery in Graniteville that you might not have heard of.
Let’s go in chronological order.
Regina Brejda of 4P Studios leaves her Martinez location Tuesday to host the monthly Happy Hour Pop Up party from 4 to 8 p.m. at Metro A Coffeehouse and Pub on Broad St. Hang out with her and some other cool artists for the evening.
On Thursday, meet Trina Watters Smith at the Aiken Center for the Arts for an opening reception for an exhibition of her works. The event begins at 6 p.m.
On First Friday, Aug.1, celebrate Westobou’s end of season party from 5 to 8 p.m.
Check out The End exhibition in the main gallery and the Beyond the Panel exhibition curated by Theron Cartwright in the MICRO gallery. Death Ray Robin will provide the music and drinks by Savannah River Brewing.

Speaking of Theron Cartwright, you can see some of his works at Sacred Heart Cultural Center.
He’s part of an exhibition with Kathleen Chandler, Deepti Malik and Sindhu Pillai. It will be on display and available for purchase through Aug. 29. Sacred Heart is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
On Aug. 8, take in the fourth annual AbstrACTION Art Group’s exhibition from 6 to 9 p.m. at Better World Studios, 125 Marshall St., Graniteville.
“AbstrACTION is a group for anyone, at any skill level, in any medium, who wishes to utilize prompts, deadlines, and community support to create MORE original visual artwork.
Every 6 weeks, our group meets in person + virtually to share artwork from the previous 3 prompts that were chosen. Each artist creates a piece of artwork from THEIR interpretation of that particular grouping of prompts. We discuss, encourage, and embrace each artist, no matter their skill level, background, or their own interpretation of their creation,” according to an email from creator, Tiphiknee De Herrera, who will give a talk at the event.
Some of the prompts included “ramen, starlight and dinosaur;” “bleached, interstellar and ethereal;” and “spiral, madman and hatching.”
The show will also be at the University of South Carolina Aiken Etherredge Center, but the date hasn’t been set yet.
