Aiken Symphony presents ‘Home for the Holidays’ Dec. 10

The Aiken Symphony and Music Director and Conductor Scott Weiss will present holiday favorites in Home for the Holidays at 3 p.m.  Sunday, Dec. 10  at the University of South Carolina Aiken Etherredge Center.

Joining the orchestra will be jazz vocalist Tish Oney, a Greenville, S.C. native, who has recently received high praise for her symphony pops programming, according to a news release. Also participating during the concert are members of the Aiken Civic Ballet, South Carolina’s longest continuously operating dance company.

Home for the Holidays marks the first concert of Aiken Symphony’s 2023-24 Pops Series, the other being May the Fourth Be with You on May 4, 2024.

Oney most recently performed this holiday program to critical acclaim with the Detroit Symphony. In addition to traditional holiday favorites, such as Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas, White Christmas and Winter Wonderland, Oney and the Aiken Symphony will perform a suite from the classic film It’s a Wonderful Life, the news release continued.

The program also features a delightful composition for two bassoons and orchestra titled BasSOON it will be Christmas, a playful blend of famous orchestral bassoon excerpts and well-known Christmas tunes. Adding movement to the music will be the Aiken Civic Ballet, joining us to dance selections from The Nutcracker.
