Aiken church school celebrates 50th anniversary Aug. 23

AIKEN – South Aiken Baptist Christian School has changed a lot since the doors opened 50 years ago, and Trevor Lightbody, the church’s pastor, is ready to show it to the public on Saturday, Aug. 23.

“The church and school started small, and the church has stayed relatively small. The Lord has really blessed us, though, and the school has grown into something that includes predominantly non-church families,” Lightbody said, in a news release. “It’s very exciting to see how we have been blessed with this growth and to anticipate how we will be blessed in the next 50 years.”

The South Aiken Baptist Christian School 50th Anniversary Celebration begins at 10 a.m. General Assembly will be at 10:15 and will include a message from the pastor who started the school in 1975. There will be a variety of activities for all ages, including a history walk, scavenger hunt (with prizes), campus tours, inflatables for children and food vendors. The school band, praise band and solo vocalists will perform throughout the day.

“This is an opportunity for people who have history with the church and school to praise the Lord and give thanks to him for what he’s done to bless the school,” Lightbody said. “This also gives the community a chance to learn what we’re all about and see if they’d be interested in partnering with us or having their kids attend.”

South Aiken Baptist Church is at 980 Dougherty Road. General Assembly and other events take place in the gymnasium. Attendees are urged to use the Hamilton Drive entrance.

The South Aiken Baptist Christian School 50th Anniversary Celebration is free and open to the public. For more information, go to SABCSchool.org.
