A longtime CSRA tradition returns this October as Golden Harvest Food Bank kicks off its 34th annual It’s Spooky To Be Hungry® food and funds drive. Throughout the month, families, schools, businesses, neighborhoods, faith-based organizations and community groups will come together to help feed neighbors across the region.
This year, Golden Harvest has set a goal of $500,000, which equates to 1.25 million meals for neighbors across its 24-county service area. For more than three decades, the community has helped “Scare Away Hunger” by collecting food, raising funds, volunteering and finding creative ways to support neighbors facing hunger, according to a news release.
“Every October, we are reminded of just how much our community can accomplish when we come together for our neighbors,” said Amy Breitmann, Golden Harvest Food Bank President and CEO . “For 34 years, It’s Spooky to Be Hungry has brought people together in creative and meaningful ways to help put food on the tables of families facing hunger. With food resources declining and costs rising, that support is especially important this year, and we are grateful for everyone who chooses to be part of this tradition.”

The need remains significant across the region, with one in six adults and one in four children experiencing food insecurity. Whether someone donates, collects food, starts a fundraising team or volunteers, every action helps Golden Harvest provide nutritious food to neighbors in need.
