Augusta Locally Grown will host a two-day event of learning, community and networking Oct. 9-10.
Participants will visit farms, participate in workshops and listen to lectures led by local farmers and experts from all over the CSRA as part of the Homegrown Augusta homesteading event. from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at the
Teaching Farm, 1820 4-H Club Rd, and from 9:30 a. m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at the Hub for Community Innovation (631 Chafee Ave., according to a news release from Augusta Locally Grown.
“Homegrown was intentionally designed to provide the practical information homesteaders need,” said Chuck Simpson, Farmer Business Manager of Augusta Locally Grown. “We were very careful to make sure that the people leading these classes have the relevant experience necessary to guide those discussions. Our goal for Homegrown is that producers will be passing on wisdom in the same community minded setting that past generations enjoyed. We hope that this will promote the larger ALG community, our farmer business programs, and help grow our community network.”
Friday will feature tours of farms throughout the CSRA, concluding with the networking session “Chili and Chats by the Fireside.”
On Saturday, participants will select five homesteading classes of their choice, acquiring new skills to incorporate into their households and possibly develop their own businesses. Rashad Albro from Afya Farms will deliver the keynote lecture titled “Why Farm Now?”
The full 2-day tickets cost $85 per person. Friday-only is $40, and Saturday-only is $50. Tickets for kids ages 6-14 cost $20. All proceeds will go to supporting Augusta Locally Grown’s mission to expand healthy food access and community-based food education throughout the Central Savannah River Area.
