The Glenn Hills Spartans lost 53-6 to Jasper County at Coach James Quarles Stadium on Friday, Sept. 18.
This marks the team’s first loss at home this season and first game they have loss in regulation.
An overtime loss last week ended Glenn Hills’ hot start as the team began the year 2-0 for the first time since the 2017.
“They were upset from the overtime loss but had a positive view of it, said Glenn Hills Coach Harry Desile. “This game we had a lot of guys banged up and now have more guys banged up. I told them we have stay together. It look like the guys are sticking together and that is all I want.”
After a three and out start from Glenn Hills, Jasper County quarterback Wailer Sands threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Dereon Pennamon in their first offensive play, making the score 7-0 early in the first quarter.
Senior Spartan wide receiver Jackson Couamin answered with a kickoff return on the next play, but Glenn Hills failed the two-point conversion to keep them down 7-6.
Sands threw his second touchdown of the game for the Hurricanes, this time to senior wide receiver Evan Pitts, making the score 15-6 after the converted two-point conversion.
The Spartans looked to gain momentum with a long sideline pass to put them inside the redzone, but quarterback Amir Gregory threw his first interception of the game.
Another turnover for Glenn Hills caused the game to continue to go south and Jasper County led 30-6 after the first quarter.
The Spartans continued to struggle with mistakes and offensively all game, failing to score again and going onto lose the game 53-6.
Glenn Hills will look to bounce back at Josey on Saturday, Sept. 26.
“It is a Saturday game, and I want to spend time with my daughter,” said Desile. “I told my guys it’s personal. They are taking away from my wife and kids, so it’s very personal.”
