Nancy Glaser, the executive director of the Augusta Museum of History, died on Aug. 10.
“It is with profound sadness that the Board and Staff of the Augusta Museum of History share the passing of our friend and Executive Director, Ms. Nancy Glaser,” read a statement from the Augusta Museum of History Staff and Board of Trustees.
The rest of the statement is as follows.
“Nancy joined the Augusta Museum of History in 2005, and last year she celebrated 20 years of leadership at the Museum. During Nancy’s tenure, she oversaw new exhibitions and programming, as well as collaborations with many Downtown businesses and nonprofits. She loved telling the story of Augusta to current and future generations. She believed anyone who walked in could be a ‘student’ of history.”
Nancy was a force in the nonprofit world, serving on multiple boards with boundless energy. One of her favorite nonprofits was J.A.M.P., the James Brown Academy of Musik Pupils. Nancy loved watching the students learn Mr. Brown’s songs – many could see her often tapping her foot and singing along during the summer J.A.M.P. concerts.
Despite being a transplant, Nancy became a hometown fixture for history and knowledge of Augusta and the surrounding area. She took enthusiastic pride in every object and story that came into the Museum. It is with incredibly heavy hearts that we share this news. Nancy will be missed, and her contributions to the area will live on in her lasting legacy.”
