Summer break will be over soon, and children will be back in the classroom.

To help families defray some of the back-to-school expenses, three events will be held in the Augusta area on July 18.

The 15th annual Fit 4 School event will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.  at the Aiken County Family YMCA while the Guiding Path Enrichment Center 5th Annual Community Resource Expo and Bookbag Blessing Giveaway will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Warren Road Recreation Center. Also, Augusta Worship Center will have an event from 10 a.m. to noon at its 3840 Mike Padgett Hwy. location.

The Fit 4 School event provides food and entertainment plus the chance for children to meet their favorite superheroes and princesses, and receive free school supplies (backpacks, writing utensils, notebooks and more) during the event.

“We know these are tough economic times for many in our community, and starting a new school year can be a strain for some families,” said Everrett Chandler, whose law firm sponsors the annual event. “I’ve been blessed with the support of the Aiken County community, and I’m always happy to pass along those blessings and give back.”

Also, the Fit 4 School event provides free health screenings and haircuts first come, first served – no appointments needed.

The Aiken County Family Y is at 621 Trolley Line Road, Graniteville. For more information, go to Fit4SchoolAiken.com.

The event at Warren Road “is designed to bring families together and connect parents with valuable resources that support them beyond the classroom. Families can enjoy fun activities for children, exciting giveaways, and the opportunity to receive one of 500+ bookbags filled with essential school supplies, all while building meaningful connections within the community,” according to the Facebook event page.

School supplies are being accepted for the event by July 15 at 4159 Wheeler Rd., Suite D.

Augusta Worship Center will giveaway about 200 backpacks. Children must be present to receive them.

“AWC Cares is here to help parents in the greater Augusta community,” said Bishop Johnson of Augusta
Worship Center. “We understand the struggles families have encountered with rising costs in food and
gas. Our goal is to equip each young person with the necessary resources to be successful.”
