New neighborhood opens at Fort Gordon

Living in  Army housing is nothing new for Stacie Maldonado.

“I’m an Army brat,” said Maldonado, whose father was a soldier and now she’s an  Army spouse. She and  her husband, PFC Chance Maldonado, are the first residents to move into a new housing area at Fort Gordon.

On May 20, the couple cut the ribbon on their three-bedroom townhome in Pine Tree Terrace.

The project has been in the works for more than two years. Officials broke ground in October 2023 for the neighborhood which will feature 72 units when completed. There will be 22 two-story buildings with three and four-bedroom townhomes, plus there will be four single story four-bedroom homes.

The units will house junior enlisted service members.

The Maldonados are childhood sweethearts and will be celebrating their first anniversary on June 6 followed by his first anniversary in the military the next week.

They were excited about having a newly constructed home and being able to make it their own.

“It feels like its more of a fresh start and easier to acclimate versus someone else’s place they just left,” said PFC Maldonado.

The couple liked how modern the unit was and the ability to make it their own.

The housing area represents a $431 million investment, according to Karsten Haake, regional project director for Providence Family Homes, a Balfour Beatty community.

“This reflects our Strict commitment to delivering modern high quality homes for the soldiers and their families. At Balfour Beatty Communities, our mission is simple…,‘put people first, build homes.’

The Maldonados will have the neighborhood to themselves for a few weeks as other families are not expected to move in until the first week of June. The Maldonado residence is part of the first phase.

The entire neighborhood should be completed by early fall.
