Two area veterans selected for posters for national disabled veteran sporting events

Two local disabled veterans appear on posters promoting national disabled veteran sporting events scheduled for 2026.

Dr. Lisa Maddox is featured on the poster for the National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic  which is scheduled for April 4-11 in Colorado, and Hall is on the poster for the National Disabled Veterans Golf Clinic scheduled for Sept. 13-18 in Iowa, according to a news release from the VA Augusta.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to be selected from over 300 veterans who attended the National Disabled Winter Sports Clinic! I was beyond humbled when I found out about it and saw the poster at the same time,” said Maddox, who has participated in a variety of wheelchair sports including  curling, rugby, pickleball, tennis and softball and won numerous medals in competitions.

Both Maddox and Hall are patients at the VA.

]”We are thrilled to see Dr. Maddox and Justin recognized on a national level,” said Suzanne Kenrick, a Recreation Therapist at VA Augusta who works closely with CSRA Veteran athletes. “They are both accomplished athletes, whose dedication and spirit serve as powerful reminders of the strength and resilience of our local veterans.”

The VA Augusta offers a strong recreation therapy program. Therapists regularly accompany participants to national Veterans adaptive sports competitions and clinics to provide on-site support, the news release said.

While adaptive sports is in Maddox’s lane, she encourages veterans to get involved in other recreational opportunities if sports isn’t right for them.

“The VA has a lot of adaptive activities for veterans with various disabilities. If you, your spouse, or both of you are veterans, please reach out to your primary care and your recreational therapist. There is even a National Veterans Creative Arts Festival in Columbia. SC this year from June 9-14. That’s a wonderful thing because not all of these clinics involved sports,” she said.
