LAKELAND, FLA.- The Augusta University men’s basketball team opened its season on Nov. 1 at the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic with No. 2 Washburn showing why the Ichabods are ranked high as they picked up a 101-53 win over the Jaguars.

AU is 0-1 while the Ichabods are 1-0. The Jaguars will be in action again on Sunday when they take on Lubbock Christian at 11 a.m.

Washburn jumped out to a double-digit lead in the opening four minutes and Augusta was never able to mount a challenge. Freshman Charlie McBeath led AU with 19 points on 7 of 15 shooting. McBeath also hit a pair of three pointers.

Oliver Lucas had eight points as did Matias Zanotto, who also collected four assists.

Augusta shot just 33% in the opening half and managed 25 points while Washburn, at times, scored at will and netted 56 points in the opening half. For the game, the Jaguars shot 30% and were out-rebounded 53-30.

Camryn Pacheco came off the bench and had a team high five rebounds. Luis Nonfon and Kyndon Wilburg added four apiece.

Midway through the first half, McBeath rattled off six straight points as the Jags tried to stay within striking distance. But Washburn was relentless on the offensive end and dominated in rebounding to extend their lead at the half.

AU also turned the ball over 19 times leading to 25 points for Washburn.
