Local horticulturist and author Jenks Farmer has been inducted into the South Carolina Authors Academy, a distinguished honor that recognizes the state’s most accomplished literary voices.
The Academy selects only four authors annually for this recognition, making Farmer’s induction a significant achievement in the state’s literary landscape, according to a news release.
“The South Carolina Authors Academy celebrates writers who have made exceptional contributions to literature while maintaining strong connections to the Palmetto State. Induction into the Academy represents the highest honor bestowed upon authors in South Carolina, acknowledging both artistic excellence and cultural impact,” the release said.

Farmer’s recognition comes on the heels of his latest book, “Secrets of Southern Gardens: Pro-tips for Success,” which was released in August. The book has been featured on “Garden and Gun” magazine’s Fall Reading List, earning a place among the 30 titles.
“This book is the only independently published book and the only gardening book on the list,” Farmer said of the “Garden and Gun” recognition. “It represents the talents of creative friends who edited, took photos, designed the pages and cover—it is truly a labor of love and proof that self published authors are changing the world of books and writing.”
