News You Can Use: Aiken County bridge replacement project to begin in November

COLUMBIA –  The South Carolina Department of Transportation announced Oct. 6 the Federal Highway Administration has awarded $8 million in federal funds for the emergency replacement of the Old Vaucluse Road bridge over I-20 in Aiken County.

Crews have begun mobilizing and construction on the project is set to begin in November with an anticipated Spring 2026 completion, according to a news release from the South Carolina Department of Transportation

The Old Vaucluse Road bridge over I-20 was demolished in June after a collision and explosion caused the bridge to collapse. SCDOT reopened the interstate in less than 36 hours.

SCDOT asks that drivers slow down and pay attention when driving near work zones.
