Burke County Bears maul Cross Creek Aug. 22

There were no surprises in the matchup between Burke County and Cross Creek on the gridiron Aug. 22.

The Bears have defeated Cross Creek handily each season they have matched up since 2005, and on Friday, they shut out the Razorbacks once again 44-0 on the Razorbacks’ home turf.

Cross Creek started out Friday’s game with long promising drive before, fumbling on 4th and long.

Late in the first quarter, running back Talon Heath scored the Bears first touchdown of the game on a short rush, making the score 7-0.

Cross Creek continued to struggle on offense throughout the night and Burke County took advantage.The Bears added two more rushing touchdowns before the end of the first half, one being by Rashad Carter.

The Bears continued their dominance in the second half with another long rushing touchdown by Heath and quarterback Sean Vandiver.

Cross Creek would come close to scoring at the end of the game, but ran out of time.

Burke County, last year’s runner-up at state, will look to continue their winning ways in a challenging matchup at home against Benedictine on Friday, Aug. 29. Benedictine defeated Burke County 43-14 last season.

Cross Creek will look to get back on track after an off week, hosting Baldwin on Friday, Sept. 5.
