CARLSBAD, Calif. — On a tough scoring day where only six teams were able to break par, Augusta University struggled and is now in 29th place after 36 holes at the NCAA Championship at the Omni La Costa Resort.

The field of 30 teams will be trimmed to 15 after Sunday’s third round and then another cut will be made after 72 holes with only the top eight advancing to match play. The Jaguars were 22-over-par on Saturday and are 17 shots out of the top 15.

No. 5 Arizona State vaulted to the team lead and are 13-under-par with Oklahoma three shots behind and Auburn five shots back.

Bo Blanchard II and Stefan Jacobs were the low Jaguars for the day as both fired a 2-over-par 74. Blanchard birdied the first hole of the day but was unable to keep the momentum going. He registered a pair of bogeys on the front nine and made the turn at 1-over-par. He had another birdie on no. 11 but he would register two more bogeys for his final score of the day.

Stefan Jacobs’ 74 on Saturday started with a bogey on no. 1 but he was able to roll home two birdies before making the turn. The back nine did not start well for Jacobs who made a bogey and double bogey. He did finish with a birdie on no. 18  before signing his scorecard.
