AU men head to NCAA golf finals after fifth place regional finish

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Augusta University is heading to the nationals.

For the first time in eight years, the men’s golf team is headed to the NCAA Championship after its fifth-place finish in the regional tournament May 14, according to a news release from Augusta University Athletics

The Jaguars went 2-under-par in Wednesday’s play and 3-under-par for the tournament. Florida State won the team title with Ole Miss and New Mexico rounding out the top three. The University of Georgia finished fourth.

Golf Week called Augusta’s outing the “star performance” of the tournament.

“What a performance, and Augusta is heading back to the NCAA Championship on the back of three top-15 finishes, and the 12th seed steals a bid,” wrote Cameron Jourdan Wednesday.

Bo Blanchard II shot an even-par 72 Wednesday and finished eighth overall. Stefan Jacobs shot a 4-under par Wednesday to finish in a tie for ninth place. Pieter Rossouw finished 11th after shooting a 1-under round.

The NCAA Championship will be May 23-28 at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, Calif. Augusta is one of 30 teams vying for the title. After 54 holes, the field will be cut in half, and after another 18 holes, there will be another cut.

The last time the Jaguars made it to the championship was in 2018 in Stillwater, Okla., where Broc Everett won the individual title, according to a press release from Augusta University Athletics.
