AU golf team heads into final round of NCAA Regionals Wednesday in fifth place

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — After two rounds of the NCAA Regional, the Augusta University men are in fifth place as the Jaguars try to qualify for the NCAA National Championship.

The top five teams advance along with the low individual golfer who’s not on a qualifying team. The Jaguars are one shot behind New Mexico and one shot ahead of Notre Dame going into Wednesday’s final round. The Jaguars were 2-over for the day and were led by Bo Blanchard II and Stefan Jacobs, who both shot 71.

For Augusta, Blanchard is currently in a tie for third overall with a two day score of 5-under. In his second round, Blanchard bogeyed his second hole of the day but quickly followed that up with a birdie on the next hole. He then reeled off 11 straight pars before a birdie on no. 6, his 15th hole of the day. He then finished off his round with three straight pars to move up one spot on the leaderboard.

Jacobs, who shot 73 in the opening round, improved by two shots with a 71 on Tuesday. He made two birdies on his first seven holes before a bogey on no. 17. He made another birdie and a bogey on his final nine holes of the day and is now in the top 20 overall.

Augusta’s Pieter Rossouw Jr. made four bogies on his first 10 holes of the day. But he turned it on over the last eight holes making three birdies to finish with a 73. Rossouw is in 11th place on the individual leaderboard.

The last counting score for the round came from Dean Wilken who shot 75. His round featured a pair of birdies and five bogeys. Behn Heyns saw his first action of the regional and also shot 75 in round two.

The final round at Seminole Legacy Golf Club will start Wednesday morning. Augusta is paired with New Mexico and Notre Dame starting at 8 a.m. Florida State remains in the team lead followed by Ole Miss and Georgia.
