Area college baseball teams are heading to SRP Park for special games in March, ramping up to the Augusta GreenJackets’ season opener.
Paine College will host the Fourth Annual HBCU Baseball Classic presented by Murphy Auto Group on Sunday, March 23.
The three-round showdown will start at noon with 10 local high school players competing in the CSRA High School Home Run Derby.
Paine College will play Morris College for a doubleheader at SRP Park with the first pitch of Game One at 2 p.m.
“We are extremely excited to partner with Mike and his team at Murphy Auto Group and host the Fourth Annual HBCU Classic at SRP Park. This annual event has grown each year, and we know with the support of the community, it will continue to grow stronger,” said Brandon Greene, GreenJackets General Manager in a news release.
The annual Battle for the Paddle Rivalry Peach Belt Conference Baseball game featuring the University of South Carolina Aiken and Augusta University is slated for 6:35 p.m. Wednesday, March 26.
“Battle for the Paddle is another great event we look forward to hosting at SRP Park,” said GreenJackets General Manager, Brandon Greene, in a separate news release. “These are two great programs, and we look forward to having the community out to cheer on the Jaguars and Pacers.”
The Pacers will be in the third base dugout and the Jaguars will be in the first base dugout.
The college games lead up to the GreenJackets’ April 4 season opener at home against the Columbia Fireflies. First pitch will be at 7:05 p.m.
