Motors for Military to benefit Augusta University students

Hurricane Helene forced the postponement of a fall event to benefit Augusta University military students.

The rescheduled Motors for Military will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 8, on the AU Summerville campus.

Organizer Stefane Raulerson, AU’s Director of Military and Veteran Services, said the event will feature an array of cars as well as food, music and door prizes.

“This is a new event. The daughter of a veteran commented on one of our social media posts that her dad loved classic cars,” she said.

Having a car show seemed to be a natural next step after that comment and something that could be done relatively easily, she said.

Car shows, she said, build a sense of community, and that’s a goal of her office – helping veteran students find a community after military life.

Vehicle registration is $25.

Raulerson’s office serves as a liaison between the office of Veterans Affairs and the student. The office helps connect the tuition benefits to the school and assists veterans as they transition from military life to a college campus which is less regimented.

Raulerson said funds raised would benefit miltary students.
